Intensive English Program

The Intensive English Program (IEP) is for international students who want to attend a college or university abroad. This program gives students the opportunity to focus on the academic skills needed to succeed in their pursuit of higher education and in the classroom.

IEP students can:

  • Apply for conditional admission to any of our 650+ partner universities provided they meet all your requirements except English
  • Get one free conditional admission application to any of our Host Institutions
  • Receive free university counseling while studying at ELS

 

Students who complete level 112 of the program receive our Level 112 Certificate of Completion. This official document is accepted as proof of English proficiency for admission to ELS partner colleges and universities.


ELS Soft Landing™

The goal of the ELS Soft Landing program is to provide matriculating international students with the social, cultural, and classroom participation skills needed for immediate success at American universities in their first term of study. The course addresses topics such as:


  • Culture shock
  • Communicating with professors
  • Study habits and time management
  • Living arrangements
  • Campus safety

This course also exposes students to school services and social opportunities at their future campus and encourages them to take full advantage of their location. The course content is designed for customization through collaboration with faculty to determine key focus points at the campus.


The Complete Prep Program for the TOEFL iBT®

This 12-week, three-session prep program uses TOEFL iBT® practice exams, textbooks, and advanced listening software to sharpen students’ test-taking skills.

This program includes:

  • Practice in integrated reading and listening skills
  • Improved writing and speaking
  • Essential test-taking strategies

Australia

Academic English AE2, AE3 and AE4

International students will study English and prepare for the rigors of Australian higher education with Academic English AE2, AE3, and AE4. The fast-paced, challenging coursework of ELS Australia's Academic English programs prepare students for direct entry into higher education institution.

AE2 provides foundation skills for academic study, AE3 prepares students to study at a TAFE or vocational college, and AE4 prepares students for university study.


IELTS™ Preparation Program

The IELTS™ Preparation program in Australia gives students the tools, skills, and confidence they need for success on the IELTS examination, and in undergraduate and postgraduate study in Australia. Students will learn what to expect from the format of the exam, develop necessary academic skills, and practice under simulated test conditions.

Canada

Intensive English Program

Following the same structure and curriculum as the U.S. version, the Intensive English Program in Canada gives international students English language skills that are academically focused, preparing them for matriculation into colleges and universities abroad.

Curriculum Highlights:

  • Key Language Skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, Pronunciation, Grammar
  • Key University Success Skills: Critical thinking, presentations, public speaking, note-taking, academic research, and more
  • Skills Enhancement Classes: Exact courses offered at each location may vary, but Skills Enhancement Classes may be dedicated to subjects such as University Preparation, Summarizing and Paraphrasing, Advanced Writing Workshop, Developing Vocabulary Skills, Advanced Presentations, Academic Skills and more.

TOEFL iBT® Preparation

Students learn to take the TOEFL iBT® exam with confidence. The ELS TOEFL iBT Preparation program uses the latest practice materials and software to prepare students for success on the exam. This course is designed for students in Levels 106 and above, and is consistently available in Vancouver. It is available in Toronto only as an elective when there is sufficient demand.


IELTS™ Preparation

The ELS IELTS Preparation program will equip students with the English and test-taking skills needed to pass the IELTS exam. Morning classes are devoted to general English skills, and students prepare for the exam itself in afternoon classes. This course is designed for students in Levels 106 and above and is available in Vancouver. It is available in Toronto only as an elective when there is sufficient demand.

Intensive English Program

The Intensive English Program in India offers the same intensive program as our U.S. and Canada locations. Designed for international students who want to attend a college or university abroad, this program gives students the opportunity to focus on the academic skills needed to succeed in their pursuit of higher education and the classroom.

Morning classes are dedicated to Structure and Speaking Practice or Language Studies, Vocabulary Enrichment (in levels 101-109) or Skills Enhancement Classes (in Master’s levels), and a lesson in the Language Technology Center. Afternoon classes are dedicated to Reading and Writing.
